Couples counseling
I have been highly trained in understanding human
behavior and I have over 20 years in applying this to my
work with couples. Often I think that just as important as
my formal training and work experience is what I’ve
experienced in being married for nearly 30 years. It’s one
thing to read it in a book. It’s another to live it.
Every couple and situation is unique, but I’ve found that
there are often commonalities in the issues on which couples
want to work. Typical problem areas include:
- Poor Communication
- “Incompatibility”
- Unhealthy Conflicts
- Aftermath of Affairs
- Lack of Intimacy
- Sexual Concerns
- “Relationship Drift”
You will not find me in the role of judging or refereeing
your arguments. My role is more like that of a coach, with
all of us on the same team. As that coach I will:
- Help you identify the negative relationship
patterns and make suggestions on where I see both of you
getting stuck
- Actively intervene to interrupt the negative
cycles, rather than just letting you get as frustrated
in my office as you do in your own home
- Teach you new skills that offer more
productive and positive ways of interacting with each
other
